Indian Star Tortoise

Indian Star Tortoise (Geochelone elegans)
Status: Least Concern
Star tortoises, which have distinctive green and yellow star markings on their shell, are a protected species from South Asia. Their protected status, however, doesn’t deter wildlife traffickers who illegally transport them long distances to supply collectors and the pet trade.
In the wild, nesting tortoises help create homes for other animals and return nutrients to the soil, they also provide food for predators.
